Steelers, Commanders, Bills could have interest in soon-to-be released Falcons WR image
The Atlanta Falcons are parting ways with a veteran wide receiver who could pop up on the radar of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders and Buffalo Bills in free agency.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Falcons are releasing wide receiver Darnell Mooney after two seasons with the team.
"The Falcons are planning to release WR Darnell Mooney, sources say, with Mooney set to count $18.4M against the salary cap. Mooney, still just 28, has averaged better than 13 yards per catch in each of the last three seasons," he reported.
Mooney had a strong first season with the Falcons, tallying 992 receiving yards and five touchdowns, the latter of which was a career-high. His yardage output was ranked second for Mooney behind his 1,000-yard season in 2021.
However, Mooney's production slipped in 2025 thanks to a combination of shaky quarterback play and his battling through injury and the veteran finished with 443 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Despite a down year, we could see the Steelers, Bills and Commanders making a play for Mooney, who should come cheap on the open market following a down year.
The Steelers and Commanders both need a running mate for their No. 1 receivers, DK Metcalf and Terry McLaurin, while the Bills need to completely revamp their receivers room thanks to the struggles of Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer.
Mooney isn't going to be an alpha in anyone's wide receivers room, but he would be a strong depth addition that can add some big-play prowess to any offense he joins.
Mooney's likely cheap price tag should be of particular interest to the Bills, who are strapped for cash this offseason.
Pittsburgh and Washington are in much better spots financially and signing Mooney would barely put a dent in their cap space, so we could see either team adding the veteran playmaker alongside another impact addition.
