Kerolin and Miedema nominated for PFA award

City’s duo played crucial roles in another strong month for Andrée Jeglertz’s side which saw us remain at the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table and progress into the FA Cup quarter-finals.

This began with a memorable 5-1 league win over reigning champions Chelsea, where Brazilian forward Kerolin netted a fantastic hat-trick at the Etihad Stadium.

After she opened the scoring with a well-taken half-volley, Miedema then provided the assist for Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw’s strike which doubled City’s advantage ahead of half-time.

And within 10 minutes of the restart, Kerolin had completed her treble when rounding off a direct run with a sublime chip over Hannah Hampton before tucking home from close range.

Then, with 18 minutes remaining at the Etihad, Miedema rounded off the scoring as we extended our lead at the division’s summit.

A narrow 1-0 defeat at Arsenal followed which represented only our second WSL loss of the season so far, but we responded expertly five days later against Leicester at the Joie Stadium.

Jeglertz’s side put the Foxes to the sword 6-0 at the Joie Stadium with both Miedema and Kerolin key to the success.

Following Shaw’s opener, Miedema bagged a brace when firing home from the edge of the area before heading a Lauren Hemp cross into the back of the net.

City weren’t finished there, though, before the interval and Kerolin provided the assist for Yui Hasegawa’s goal when she drove into the box and teed up the Japan international.

The Brazilian wrote her name on the scoresheet after the break when she unleashed a vicious drive into the top corner and Aoba Fujino finished the scoring against the Foxes.

It meant Miedema finished February with three goals and one assist in the WSL and Kerolin racked up four goals and one assist.

City’s duo are joined on the shortlist by Everton’s Martina Fernandez, Manchester United’s Jess Park and Julia Zigiotti and Spurs’ Cathinka Tandberg.
