Liverpool are among the clubs keeping a close eye on Yan Diomande after his breakthrough season with RB Leipzig.
The 19‑year‑old wide forward has been one of the standout young players in the Bundesliga since his £17.5m move from Leganés. The Ivorian winger has racked up 9 goals and 5 assists in 23 league appearances so far this season, outstanding numbers for someone in his first full campaign at this level.
Now Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has provided an update, claiming that Liverpool have already held talks over the transfer:
“Since a transfer for Michael Olise in the summer is not considered realistic, Liverpool’s Bundesliga focus has shifted to Yan Diomande. 19 y/o is being monitored and talks have already taken place.”
“LFC are exploring the market for a high-class winger in the summer, as Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa could leave the club. RB Leipzig are demanding up to €100 million for Diomande. Therefore, a move to FC Bayern is currently also unrealistic.”
For a Liverpool side planning for the long term in wide areas, it is easy to see why a 19‑year‑old with this kind of G/A return and physical profile is viewed as a serious candidate if the price can be negotiated down.
It will be difficult to imagine the Reds forking €100 million for Diomande. Meanwhile, the player himself revealed that before his Leganes move, he turned down a transfer to Chelsea:
“It was a difficult time. I felt like for many people, it was all about money. A lot of people told me I absolutely had to play for Chelsea. Then I stopped everything and made a decision for myself,” he said.
“I knew the president of Leganes; he had helped with my move to the USA. Suddenly, I was faced with a choice: Leganes or Chelsea? It was risky, but luckily, it was the right decision. I think patience is very important in football.”
“It’s not always just about money. If you play well, it will come naturally. I’m young; I need to play to increase my sporting value, to improve. And I wouldn’t get that on the bench.”
