The title charge of Arsenal gathered new pace after their 1-0 win over Brighton. The Gunners go seven points clear with Saka on target in a tough win away from home. This is a result that felt bigger than a routine league victory. It was tense but it showed the effort that champions often make when the race tightens.
Saka Strikes Early As Arsenal Set The Tone
From the opening whistle Arsenal tried to move with purpose. Brighton also attacked with confidence by creating early end to end moves that kept both goalkeepers alert. The breakthrough arrived in the ninth minute when Bukayo Saka cut inside from the right and fired from the edge of the box. A slight deflection off Carlos Baleba confused Bart Verbruggen. With that, the ball slipped painfully through the keeper’s legs.
For the Gunners, it was the perfect start in a stadium where even a slight advantage matters. Saka’s finish settled the visitors and gave them control of the game. The Seagulls continued to move the ball well but the north London side showed patience. They dropped deeper and protected the lead rather than chasing another goal.
News came in through that Nottingham Forest had struck against Manchester City. Suddenly the chants grew louder and belief spread across the away end.
Brighton Rage As Gunners Play The Dark Arts
If the opener was lively, what followed was pure control mixed with frustration. Brighton pushed forward while Arsenal slowed the rhythm whenever possible. Home fans grew angry as throw ins, corners and free kicks took longer than expected. The visitors were controlling the clock with calm.
As per reports, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler had already warned about such football tactics before kickoff. He said:
“When Arsenal has a corner and they are leading, sometimes they spend over one minute just to take it.”
His frustration soon spilled onto the touchline as every delay drew louder boos from the crowd. But, there was logic behind the approach from the away team. Without William Saliba in defense, Arsenal needed discipline and leadership.
Meanwhile, Gabriel Magalhães stepped up by winning duels and clearing danger with authority. Each interception took away momentum from Brighton and strengthened Arsenal’s belief that one goal should be enough.
The home team still produced moments of danger. Georginio Rutter forced David Raya into a sharp save early in the second half. The Spanish goalkeeper needed treatment after landing heavily. Later, Yankuba Minteh nearly created a clear chance for an equalizer. Mats Wieffer also headed wide from a good position. Still, the goal never arrived for the Seagulls at home.
Arteta’s Arsenal Make Huge Title Statement
Arsenal entered the final phase knowing patience mattered more than flair. Mikel Arteta brought in Kai Havertz to take on Brighton’s defence and offer fresh energy. The change helped the Gunners move slightly higher up the pitch while still protecting their narrow lead.
Elsewhere, Declan Rice nearly created a decisive second goal after robbing Baleba in midfield. Havertz took the ball into space but Verbruggen recovered well to block the attempt. Shortly after, Leandro Trossard wasted another chance when his finish lacked accuracy.
Even without a second goal the north London side rarely looked panicked. Their defensive line stayed compact and Raya dealt calmly with crosses. The back four read danger early and cleared the ball before Brighton could build real pressure.
The result also carried more meaning in the Premier League title race. With Man City dropping points earlier earlier, Arsenal suddenly found more air to breath at the top of the table. Three straight victories against Tottenham, Chelsea and Brighton have offered momentum. This came after a short poor run that saw just two wins in seven matches.
