Newcastle United star banned v Man City as 7 ruled-out of FA Cup clash - plus four doubts

Newcastle United latest news: Eddie Howe has a number of injury concerns to deal with this weekend when they host Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Newcastle United and Manchester City will lock horns for the fifth time this weekend when they meet at St James’ Park in the FA Cup.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won three of the four meetings this season to-date, with Newcastle United’s only victory coming in their Premier League meeting on Tyneside back in November. A place in the last-eight of the FA Cup awaits whoever emerges victorious on Saturday night.

However, Newcastle United’s trick task has been made even more difficult by their injury list with a host of key players, including captain Bruno Guimaraes, expected to miss out this weekend. Eddie Howe will also be without Jacob Ramsey after he was harshly sent off against Manchester United in midweek.

The Citizens, meanwhile, don’t have as many injury concerns to deal with this weekend and were boosted by Erling Haaland winning his fitness battle ahead of their draw with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night. Here, we take a look at the latest injury news affecting both Newcastle United and Manchester City ahead of their FA Cup meeting at St James’ Park on Saturday night.

Manchester City injury news v Newcastle United

Josko Gvardiol - out

A bad ankle injury is set to keep Gvardiol sidelined for a number of months. The Croatian international faces a race against time to be back fit ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Mateo Kovacic - out

Kovacic will miss this weekend’s game and, like Gvardiol before him, could miss most of the remainder of the campaign.

Max Alleyne - doubt

Alleyne picked up a knock last month during Manchester City’s last FA Cup outing against Salford City. He is a doubt to feature this weekend.

Nico O’Reilly - doubt

O’Reilly scored twice when these two sides met in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium less than a fortnight ago. He is, though, a doubt to feature this weekend after picking up an injury against Leeds United. O’Reilly wasn’t named by Guardiola in his matchday squad for their draw with Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle United injury and team news v Manchester City

Fabian Schar - out

Schar suffered an ankle ligament injury against Leeds United in January and has been ruled-out of action for the foreseeable future. He may return to action next month if his recovery goes as planned.

Emil Krafth - out

Krafth has undergone surgery on a knee injury and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. He will not feature against Manchester City.

Bruno Guimaraes - out

Guimaraes suffered an injury late on against Spurs last month and has not been seen in action since. It has since been revealed that the Brazilian will miss a substantial amount of matches and is not expected to return to action until after the next international break. An estimated eight to ten weeks on the sidelines will keep Guimaraes, who is currently back in Brazil receiving treatment, out of action until April.

Jacob Ramsey - out

Ramsey’s red card against Manchester United on Wednesday night means that he will not feature against City on Saturday. He will serve a one-match ban this weekend and return to the squad for their clash with Barcelona on Tuesday night.

Lewis Miley - out

Miley hasn’t featured since their draw with PSG in January with a leg injury continuing to keep him sidelined. There is hope that he can return to action before the second-leg of their Champions League Round of 16 clash with Barcelona.

Tino Livramento - doubt

Livramento suffered a hamstring injury during their FA Cup win over Bournemouth. A return date this month has been pencilled in for the defender, with Howe confirming last week that he is making good progress and ‘on track’ to return to the team very soon. He is a major doubt to face Guardiola’s side this weekend, though.

Nick Woltemade - doubt

Woltemade has been suffering with illness and missed out entirely on Wednesday night. He is a doubt to feature this weekend.
