Midfielder tells Mikel Arteta he wants£150k-a-week to join Arsenal in summer for FREE

Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a summer move for Leon Goretzka, with fresh claims suggesting the Bayern Munich midfielder would demand wages of around £150,000 per week if he joins the north London club on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The Germany international is set to leave FC Bayern Munich when his contract expires this summer, making him one of the most high-profile players potentially available without a transfer fee. Arsenal are among several clubs monitoring the situation, while Italian sides including Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus are also reported to be interested.

According to recent reports, Goretzka’s salary expectations could reach roughly £150,000 per week, a figure that would place him among the higher earners in Premier League should a deal be agreed. Arsenal are believed to be assessing whether the financial package makes sense for a player who would arrive on a free transfer but with significant wage demands.

The Gunners have long admired the midfielder and were linked with a move during the January transfer window. However, a mid-season deal never materialised after Goretzka opted to honour his commitment to Bayern and remain in Munich until the end of the campaign.

ARSENAL Manager Mikel Arteta is thought to be keen to strengthen his midfield options ahead of next season, with Arsenal competing domestically and in European competition. Goretzka’s experience at the highest level — including multiple Bundesliga titles and a Champions League triumph — is seen as a potential asset to a squad already featuring players such as Declan Rice.

Despite his decorated career in Bavaria, Goretzka’s role at Bayern has become less prominent in recent months, with increased competition for places limiting his starts. Reports indicate he has made just over 20 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring twice.

The midfielder is also believed to favour a move to England, particularly to a club competing in the Champions League, which could give Arsenal an advantage over other suitors.

While no agreement has been reached, the prospect of signing an experienced international on a free transfer could prove attractive for ARSENAL.

The key question may ultimately come down to whether the club are prepared to meet Goretzka’s reported wage demands as they shape their squad for the 2026-27 campaign.
