The truth behind LeBron James' 67-point triple-double 'eruption'

The "6-7" meme will never die. LeBron James in recent days has accidentally contributed to its continued prevalence.

James has gone viral amid his triple-double "eruption." The numbers are videogame-esque: 67 points, 21 assists and 15 rebounds for the Los Angeles Lakers.

However, while the 41-year-old James remains a high-level contributor and needs only three more field goals to set a new NBA record, closer inspection reveals the truth behind these eye-popping statistics.

James' "triple-double" has been accrued over a three-game span -- something that can be considered relatively ordinary for many of the NBA's stars.

Over the past three games -- all Lakers wins -- James is averaging 22.3 points, 7.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds. Solid figures, especially for a player in his 23rd NBA season, but hardly exceptional.

The Lakers' recent surge has helped them close to within a half-game of the fifth-seeded Denver Nuggets, and Los Angeles is 1.5 games behind the Houston Rockets for the #3 seed in the tight Western Conference playoff race.

So while James isn't producing the gaudiest numbers you've ever seen, he's doing plenty to steer the Lakers in the right direction.
