The financialcontroversy started when reports claimed that banks began seizing Beckham’s luxury assets. According to viral social media reports, his car collection was liquidated and he was left with a 2009 Honda Accord for transportation.
These claims gained credibility because Beckham had previously admitted that his high salary was not enough to support his lifestyle.
During an appearance on The Pivot podcast, Beckham stated, “I’m not saying 100 million is not a lot of money, but it is not enough to create generational wealth for my family.”
Esiason argued that this financial downfall was a result of poor decision making and a lack of focus. He reminded listeners that Beckham decided to take his 2021 salary from the Los Angeles Rams entirely in Bitcoin.
At that time, Bitcoin was worth nearly $64,000 but the value dropped significantly soon after. Between high taxes and the market crash, experts estimate Beckham earned very little from that contract.
The timing of the bankruptcy is difficult for Beckham because his on-field career is also struggling. He finished the 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins with only nine catches and 55 yards.
He is currently a free agent and must serve a 6-game suspension for violating the league policy on performance enhancing drugs. Esiason concluded that Beckham’s career serves as a warning for young athletes about the importance of financial discipline.
