Opinion: Alejandro Garnacho will outstay£54m Chelsea star as winger shines in Aston Villa win

Alejandro Garnacho reminded everyone of his quality in Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

Chelsea fans have been quite critical of Garnacho this season, but the winger put in a performance at Villa Park that they had to appreciate.

Another wide man at Stamford Bridge who receives a lot of criticism is Pedro Neto, who did not feature against Villa because of suspension.

Chelsea likely to sell Pedro Neto before Alejandro Garnacho

One performance is unlikely to change much. There are probably still a lot of Chelsea supporters who would not mind seeing Garnacho depart west London, and the same applies to Neto.

However, the likelihood is that Garnacho will remain at the club, though Neto leaving does not sound impossible. Ultimately, if Chelsea do decide to sell one of their wingers this summer or in the near future, Neto is way more likely to be sold than Garnacho.

With Geovany Quenda set to arrive at Stamford Bridge in the upcoming transfer window, Neto’s position in the squad already looks to be under threat. While Quenda can play on the left, he prefers the right, meaning that Neto could have to compete against both his compatriot and Estevao Willian for a starting spot next season.

You cannot forget that Cole Palmer is also used on the right from time to time. That is way too many options.

Garnacho, on the other hand, favours the other flank and is four years Neto’s junior. It seems more probable that Chelsea will invest their time into the younger player. It is what their model is all about.

If Garnacho remains in west London beyond this season, Chelsea fans will want to see more performances like his one against Villa.

According to Sofascore, as well as assisting Joao Pedro’s hat-trick goal, Garnacho also made six key passes, which is very impressive.

As for Neto, the £54m Portugal international started the season strongly but has faded away. Last month, it was claimed that Chelsea are now open to selling Neto this summer. He will definitely be one Chelsea player to keep an eye on when the transfer window opens.
