Alisson’s 2027 stance, Wirtz boost & Elliot Anderson monitored – Latest LFC News

Alisson‘s future at Liverpool has been in the headlines on Thursday, as has the return of Florian Wirtz and Sweden’s expectations for Alexander Isak‘s comeback this month.

Alisson’s “intention” is to stay at Liverpool for 2026/27

Alisson has a clause in his contract that extends his stay at Anfield for a further year, which would take him to the summer of 2027.

He has, however, been linked with a move back to Italy, with clubs aware of his situation at Liverpool, but transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano states the club’s No. 1 “doesn’t want to leave.”

In a translation of a video on his Italian YouTube channel, Romano claims that, “It’s that the player’s intention is to stay at Liverpool for another year.

“He has one more year left on his contract, and Alisson would like to complete it at Liverpool, so Alisson doesn’t want to leave at the moment.

“If Liverpool decide to put him on the market, we’ll see.

“I repeat, it’s early March, so it’s still early, but right now Alisson‘s intention is to complete his contract there, and therefore not leave this summer, but possibly leave in the summer of 2027.

“So it doesn’t appear that there are any concrete discussions at the moment, either with Juventus or Inter.”

There are questions starting to emerge about Alisson and a dip, but the Brazilian can still outperform many of his peers and is an integral player in the dressing room. He’s someone you would keep forever if you could!

LFC News: Alexander Isak update, Florian Wirtz return & Elliot Anderson monitored

• Florian Wirtz could take a place on the bench at Wolves on Friday after being involved in parts of training this week, though Slot insisted a “few” minutes is the best-case scenario

• Sweden hoped to have Alexander Isak for their World Cup qualifiers this month, but reports from the region don’t expect that to happen. He hasn’t even rejoined LFC training yet!

• Liverpool continue to be linked to Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, with Sky Germany‘s Florian Plettenberg stating he’s being “monitored” and talks have “already taken place.” We need a big investment, again, this summer

• Peter Crouch has joined the Liverpool Legends squad for their match against Dortmund at the end of this month – he could be a tall order for the Germans…(I’ll see myself out)

• Liverpool have “kept close tabs” on Nottingham Forest‘s Elliot Anderson – who would be an ideal physical addition to the midfield – but Man City are ready to step up their pursuit, claim talkSPORT. Typical!

OPINION: Arne Slot must coach his attack

Liverpool, again, struggled to get in touch with their creative side at Wolves, and Jack Lusby has addressed the calls for Rio Ngumoha to start and the need for Slot to coach his attack:

Slow and predictable. Ngumoha is clearly neither of those, but to suggest him as a plug-in-and-play answer to Liverpool’s problems would do both player and club a disservice.

Instead the focus must turn to Slot himself.

In his pre-match press conference, the Dutchman made headlines as he admitted he no longer enjoys watching most games in the Premier League, saying: “My football heart doesn’t like it.”

But the football his side served up over almost two hours at Molineux perfectly fits the description of being “not a joy to watch.”

Football News: Arsenal time-wasters, Championship play-offs & Gareth Bale’s injury admittance

• This is alarming. Arsenal took 30 minutes and 51 seconds to restart play in their win over Brighton, it’s no wonder Fabian Hurzeler vented his frustrations afterwards! Make it stop, for the good of football (Opta)

• From 2026/27, the Championship will see its play-offs expanded from four teams to six. That decision has surely been made purely for monetary reasons. What’s wrong with keeping things as they are? (EFL)

• Gareth Bale has revealed a back injury suffered at 18 led to a host of injuries throughout his career and “caught up” with him when he retired at 33 (Stick to Football podcast)

Liverpool FC: On this day

While the 2022/23 might not have been much to shout about, Liverpool fans certainly won’t be forgetting March 5, 2023!

Liverpool beat Man United 7-0 – yes, seven – as they recorded their biggest-ever victory against their old rivals.

Cody Gakpo‘s opener was actually the only goal in the first half, but Man United collapsed after the break, leading to Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah bagging braces, Gakpo scoring again and Roberto Firmino adding the seventh.

What we’d do for another night like that!

It’s also a year to the day Harvey Elliott scored the winner at PSG, but we all know what came next.
