The Buffalo Bills may have just landed a potential new No. 1 wide receiver for Josh Allen, landing wide receiver D.J. Moore in a trade that is drawing praise for the price they paid.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the two sides were finalizing the deal, which would officially go into effect when the new NFL season starts.
“ESPN sources: the Chicago Bears are working to finalize a trade that would send WR D.J. Moore to the Buffalo Bills. Compensation still is being discussed, and the trade cannot be processed until the new league year begins, but both sides are pushing to make it happen,” Schefter wrote.
Bills Praised for Good Price on D.J. Moore
While the full details of the trade were still emerging, the Bills were already getting good marks for the relatively low cost.
The Bills appeared to get Moore at a relatively low cost, with NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reporting that the team gave up a draft pick — and not a particularly high one.
“Sources: The#Bears are trading veteran WR DJ Moore to the#Bills, landing Josh Allen another weapon. It’s a mid-round pick compensation going back,” Rapoport reported.
The price earned some praise, especially in comparison to other recent wide receiver trades like D.K. Metcalf, who was sent to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a second-round pick and a swap of fourth-round picks last year.
The team also earned praise for taking a big swing, landing one of the best available players.
“Well I’m VERY glad the Bills have added a proven talent to help bolster their WR room,” noted WGR reporter Jeremy White in a post on X. “I don’t think the Moore trade classifies as a ‘sunglasses move’ if I could say that, but it’s got real potential to work well. Fills a big need.”
Reporter Bradley Gelber also praised the Bills for the trade, noting that Moore has a strong track record of success with some lesser quarterbacks.
“DJ Moore might be the most quarterback-proof WR in the NFL,” Gelber noted in post on X. “Imagine what he does with Josh Allen.”
