David Carr Predicts Raiders to Strike Deal With All-Pro WR in Free Agency

Free agency is about to kick off for the Las Vegas Raiders, and considering how much salary cap space they have, they’re likely to be big spenders. While the offensive line need is real, if the team can convince Pro Bowl center Tyler Linderbaum to sign, they might be content developing the players they already have.

Another huge need is at wide receiver. The Raiders do have some interesting young wide receivers, but all of them are cheap, so they can afford to spend some money at the position.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense for the Raiders to sign an older veteran like Tyreek Hill or Stefon Diggs. Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Rashid Shaheed is a player who has been linked to the team. He worked with new Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak the last two seasons, so he’s a logical player to target.

David Carr, who is the brother of former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, was asked to predict where Shaheed will sign this offseason. He picked Las Vegas.

“Bring him in,” Carr said of Shaheed on the “Home Grown” podcast. “I like him with the Raiders.”

Derek Carr played with Shaheed in New Orleans in 2024, and he also endorsed the move.

Shaheed Predicted to Get $30 Million Contract

The appealing thing about Shaheed is that he’s not going to break the bank. Sports Illustrated’s Gilberto Manzano predicted that he’ll get a two-year, $30 million contract in free agency.

That’s not a steep price for a player who can be an impact player in Kubiak’s offense. Shaheed’s skillset is a bit redundant to Tre Tucker’s, who is already under contract, but he knows the offense well and can be another weapon.

Adding Shaheed would give the Raiders some serious speed at wide receiver. Shaheed, Tucker and Dont’e Thornton are three of the fastest wide receivers in the NFL. Those three could stretch the field while Jack Bech, Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer dominate the middle. It’s not the worst strategy for the NFL’s worst offense from last season.

Will Raiders Re-Sign Linebackers?

The Raiders don’t have a lot of free agents they are going to try to bring back. They were the worst team in the NFL last season and need a fresh start.

The Raiders especially have a lot of free agents on defense. Linebackers Devin White and Jamal Adams played a lot of snaps for the team last season, but neither played at a high level consistently.

It doesn’t make much sense to bring either back, but they could be very cheap options. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell thinks they’d only be worth $1 million or $2 million in free agency.

“Adams and White got plenty of snaps for Pete Carroll’s Raiders on defense, but Adams missed a whopping 15.1% of his tackle attempts while playing his first full season since 2018,” Barnwell wrote. “White made a ton of tackles because somebody had to on this defense, but the former Bucs Pro Bowler still missed his fair share of attempts and allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete nearly 77% of their throws in his direction.”
