Fullback as good as winger – Exciting transfer lined up for Manchester City

Two weeks ago, Sport Witness covered Manchester City’s interest in AS Roma star Wesley, who joined the club in 2025.

The Giallorossi have seen the Brazilian become arguably one of the best wing-backs in Europe. There was confidence that his value has doubled, with Roma having paid €25m.

Wesley’s value was believed to have doubled and Manchester City would have to pay about €50m to land him in the summer.

The wing-back’s situation has found the spotlight in today’s Corriere dello Sport.

Wesley one of the Fantastic Four

The newspaper describes Wesley as part of Roma’s Fantastic Four right now. The other three players are Manu Kone, Evan Ndicka and Matias Soule.

Praise is heaped on the Brazil international, who defends like a proper full-back and attacks like a true winger. His best traits are seen when he is attacking though, but Corriere dello Sport don’t go deeper into that.

Manchester City are keen on a deal, with the club keen on improving at full-back next summer. Wesley would fit in well for Pep Guardiola.

Whilst there’s an attempt to positively sell the Roma player, it’s now believed the price could be pushed over €60m.

The same applies for both Kone and Ndicka, with Soule also of interest to Borussia Dortmund. All four are key for the Giallorossi and ideally, they wouldn’t want to sell him. FFP worries can lead to the exit of a big money, especially if the right price is offered.

Transfer fee can grow further

Out of the four star players, Wesley has been at Roma for the shortest amount of time. He has also probably had the best season out of all of them.

That makes him the most valuable player at the Italian club, who have repeatedly dealt with FFP issues in recent years.

Wesley should also play at the upcoming World Cup and this can lead to further increase in his valuation. Good performances at the tournament will both attract more clubs and see Roma believe they can push even higher.

This puts the Serie A club in an advantageous situation, even if they sell the 22-year-old. Manchester City should keep an eye on this regardless, with Wesley capable of playing on either flank.

Value, contract and agents – What Manchester City need to know

Roma have the Brazilian on a contract lasting until 2030, and it’s the same deal as when he arrived in Italy. Given how well he’s done and the transfer fees being talked about, it’s certain his salary won’t match his new status. That’s a way in for Manchester City with the player’s agents.

Those representatives are MCL Agency, and Wesley is the only client they have. Such a situation gives the dynamic of a future transfer being hugely important to them. Taking a player to Manchester City is a gold star for an agent and inevitably helps attract more clients.
