D.J. Moore trade grades: Bills fill big Josh Allen need at receiver, Bears help out Caleb Williams

The Buffalo Bills got the new veteran No. 1 wide receiver they needed for Josh Allen. The Chicago Bears can now move on with a strong group of young targets for Caleb Williams.

D.J. Moore is headed to his third NFL team, reuniting with Bills head coach Joe Brady, his former offensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers.

Meanwhile, the Bears finally cleared a pricey contract from their offensive depth chart.

Here's breaking down who got the better of the deal:

Bills grade: A-

The Bills were rumored to go after A.J. Brown via a trade with the Eagles or be very active in free agency, with options for them ranging from top open-market targets, Alec Pierce and Mike Evans, to speedy Rashid Shaheed.

Instead, they go for the happy medium without giving up too much draft capital. Moore will turn only 29 in April. He is a very durable receiver as well, last missing a game during the 2020 season.

During Brady's second and final season with the Panthers in 2021, Moore had 93 catches for 1,157 yards and 4 TDs. In three seasons with the Bears since coming over in what is now the Bryce Young trade, Moore averaged 81 catches for 1,004 yards and 7 TDs.

Moore is rather consistent as an intermediate-to-deep threat outside, something the Bills have been missing with limited wide receiver juice since moving on from Stefon Diggs. Allen now gets a solid go-to guy who can have near career-best results as an alpha again.

Bears grade: A+

This might seem weird, giving the Bears a significantly higher grade for giving up Moore. But they needed to get rid of his sizable contract and flipped him for a valuable second-rounder to boost. Moore was expendable with Rome Odunze, Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III looking like great youthful playmakers for Williams going forward. Notably, Moore had his big year with the Bears in 2023 when Justin Fields was force-feeding him as the No. 1.

Williams and Moore have had notable chemistry issues, first in the previous offense and again in the current scheme under Ben Johnson. Williams can now be free to spread the ball around to different, versatile, quick targets who are more on the same page as him.

While the Bills will hope Moore gets revved up with Brady and Allen, the Bears can look forward to Williams having "his guys" going forward.
