The Chicago Bears have traded DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills, but not everyone is happy about the move. Here's why.

On Thursday, March 5, the Chicago Bears made a high-profile deal with the Buffalo Bills to trade away wide receiver DJ Moore.

According to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Buffalo Bills will get DJ Moore and a 2026 fifth-round pick in the deal, while theChicago Bears will secure 2026 second-round pick. The move will also clear up salary cap space for the Chicago Bears, which is likely a strong motivator for Ben Johnson.

Former Chicago Bears Wide Receiver DJ Moore By the Numbers

Moore signed a contract extension with the Chicago Bears in July 2024. He was set to carry a $28.5 million salary cap hit in 2026, so this move helps the Chicago Bears financially.

Looking at production, for the 2025-26 season, Moore had a career-low 50 catches for 682 yards, according to NFL research. So, he’s not at his peak, and that’s likely part of why Johnson thought he was worth trading away to free up cap space.

But, there are more numbers. According to research from ESPN Insights, DJ Moore is one of five players with more than 50 catches on throws of more than 20 air yards over the last five seasons, joining only CeeDee Lamb, Justin Jefferson, Tyreek Hill and George Pickens.

So, Moore is still at the top of his game in that area. He’s also never missed a game with the Bears, so he’s reliable. With those factors being said, was this truly a good move for the Chiccago Bears?

Online Reaction to Chicago Bears Trading DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills is Mixed, at Best

Online, people are making their thoughts known, and some Bears fans aren’t happy about the trade. It’s impossible to make everyone happy, of course. But, people are making their voices and concerns known.

“The Bears consistently set themselves back every single year,” another said. “What? Why are they sabotaging Caleb like this? That’s his best receiver? Bears aren’t a real franchise man,” another said.

“Bills absolutely won that trade,” one more said. “The Bears just got completely fleeced! Giving up a prime DJ Moore plus a 5th-rounder for a single 2nd-round pick in 2026 is terrible business. Chicago just handed Josh Allen a superstar for absolutely nothing. Buffalo won this trade by a massive mile and it is not even close,” another said.

Some, though, are more positive. “Chicago getting a second rounder for DJ Moore straight up is a solid return for a receiver they clearly weren’t building around anymore. Buffalo adds a legitimate weapon and the Bears stack more draft capital. Clean deal for both sides,” one follower said. “The arrival of DJ Moore signals that the Bills are not building for seasons, they are engineering moments,” one more added.

“Buffalo Bills getting DJ Moore plus a 5th feels like strong value, while the Chicago Bears add a future 2nd to build for the long term. Big-picture move for both sides,” one more added, giving a positive look for both sides.

So, time will tell if this is a good deal for both parties, but for now, both can agree that it’s certainly not hyperbole to use the word “blockbuster” in this case.
