Was Jayson Tatum in Training Day? Why NBA fans think Celtics star played Denzel Washington's son

The Boston Celtics received big news on Thursday when it was revealed that Jayson Tatum is on the cusp of returning from the Achilles tear he suffered almost nine months ago.

You'd think that's all Celtics fans would be talking about right now, but Tatum finds himself in the news for another reason.

A post from user @KyleSimonsen went viral on X noting how similar Tatum looks to the kid from the well-known movie "Training Day."

The post, which now has over 3 million views, had users wondering if that was Tatum's initial claim to fame.

Was Jayson Tatum in Training Day?

Celtics star Jayson Tatum was not in the movie Training Day.

The actor who played the kid people think looks like Tatum is Kyjel N. Jolly.

According to Jolly's IMDb page, it's the only role of his career. (And no, it's not because he decided to play basketball instead and became a five-time NBA All-Star.)

It's not clear what age Jolly was when he appeared in the Academy Award-winning film, but Tatum, who was born on March 3, 1998, would've been three years old when the movie was released in October 2001.

This isn't actually the first time fans have thought Tatum was in Training Day.

TikTok videos and Facebook posts dating back to 2021 claim the Celtics star played Denzel Washington's son.

Just know that the next time you see it, it isn't the truth.
