Liverpool will look to sign a new midfielder in the summer, could they get Eduardo Camavinga at the right time?

Liverpool didn’t just recruit to immediately strengthen the first team last summer, they also strengthened for the future.

At 25, Alexander Isak was the oldest of the new recruits with Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike, Gianluigi Leoni and Milos Kerkez all some distance away from their peak. What they all share though, is plenty of experience at the highest level of football with even teenage centre-half Leoni being primed for senior international honours before suffering the cruellest of injuries on his debut.

Liverpool target new midfielder

This summer, Liverpool will stick to the plan, but they also need experience and leadership, regardless of age, with a first-team ready centre-half being expected as well as a winger who has the unenviable task of potentially replacing Mohamed Salah. What will also be needed is a central midfielder who can link the defence to the attack as well as inspire those around them when the going gets tough.

One player who ticks this box is Eduardo Camavinga, Real Madrid’s midfield enforcer who has been linked with Liverpool already and who was reported to be the subject of a £61m offer. At 23-years old, the France international is still young, however, he has over 300 senior games under his belt already.

What Camavinga has said about his future

Despite his well-earned reputation, Camavinga, via Tribuna, said in a recent interview that the best is yet to come, something that should be music to Richard Hughes’ ears: "No, I think I have a lot more to offer, I'm aware of that, and I have the ability," Camavinga said when asked if he has reached his best at Madrid.

"Madridistas haven't seen the full potential of Camavinga, because I can give more. I'm so proud of what I've achieved, even though I aspire for more. Looking back, my family is so proud and incredibly happy. I grew up in humble surroundings, and now I can provide so much for my family. On the pitch, I pray to God that my parents feel joy when they see me play. I think I'm achieving that. I want to keep going like this.” With reports suggesting that he could be allowed to leave the Bernabeau, it could well be Liverpool that benefits.
