Rob Edwards provides Wolves team news ahead of Liverpool tie

Liverpool and Wolves face off again this week, with a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals on the line. The teams met in the Premier League on Tuesday, where Wolves’ Andre scored a last-minute winner to secure a 2-1 victory, following their earlier win over Aston Villa.

The defeat had little impact on Liverpool’s Champions League hopes, as Aston Villa and Manchester United both lost to Chelsea and Newcastle United, respectively, on Wednesday night.

The FA Cup decider will see one team advance to the quarter-finals, one step from Wembley. Both sides have one win apiece this season, setting up a tense clash as they aim for silverware in May.

Premier League champions Liverpool report no new injury concerns, and Florian Wirtz could feature briefly after missing the last three matches with a back issue.

Speaking on Thursday, Slot said: “He [Wirtz] trained half and half yesterday with the team. What I mean with that is he was a ‘joker’, you say over here I think, so he made the next step in his rehab. So, let’s see where he is today and if he then could be available for a few – a few – minutes tomorrow, in the best scenario.”

Wolves midfielder Andre is suspended after receiving two cautions in this season’s competition. Enso Gonzalez remains sidelined with a knee injury, while Hee-Chan Hwang returned from nearly a month out to be named on the bench on Tuesday.

Wolves boss Rob Edwards made four changes in midweek and confirmed his squad is otherwise fully fit ahead of the tie. Edwards said: “We made some changes, but that was because of knowing what was coming up, but also we felt it was the right way to try and win the game on Tuesday night.

“We did that for both those reasons and it’s hard for me to prioritise either game. We’re really valuing this game tomorrow and this game tomorrow is now the most important game of our season, but Tuesday night was the most important game of our season at that moment.

“It was really difficult for me to not value a game against Liverpool in the Premier League, so it was about trying to pick the right team to win a game of football, and knowing that we’ve got to be really good.

“We might have to ride our luck a little bit, and maybe things go our way for what happened to happen and now we’re in a good spot now, apart from Andre suspended, where everyone’s fit and available for tomorrow night.”
