The Buffalo Bills have acquired wide receiver DJ Moore in a high-profile trade with the Chicago Bears. Over the last three seasons, Moore was a dependable target in Chicago’s offense. However, the emergence of young pass catchers on their roster caused his production to drop in 2025.
Indeed, Moore went from having 140 targets in 2024 to just 85 last season. Now with the Bills, the 29-year-0ld wide receiver will be the offense’s top receiving target, something that they have been missing.
But while adding Moore fulfills a dire need on Buffalo’s offense, many believe the Bills paid too high of a price to get him.

In order to acquire Moore, the Bills had to give up a second round draft pick. Additionally, they have guaranteed much of Moore’s future salary, nearly $40 million of money spread out through 2028.
And many around the NFL think this simply was too much to pay:
This was already a bad trade for the Bills given Moore’s contract as it was but throwing in 2028 fully guaranteed money just because is bizarre and makes the deal worse. https://t.co/u1y35JRh05

The internet bullied the Bills into a terrible trade and contract, even if DJ Moore is a good fit.
A 2nd round pick?!?! And then they agree to guaranteeing some of his 2028 money?!?! This is quickly turning into a 3-year, $74M deal for a declining WR2.

Bears must be thrilled to get out of this contract https://t.co/TWOmqpiWXS

Massive win for the Bears…still unclear on what the Bills are doing but at least they can’t blame Coach McDermott for this https://t.co/qw9bVYpd8z

It will be interesting to see how this trade works out for Buffalo. Hopefully, Moore can return to being a productive wide receiver by getting more targets his way now that he is with the Bills. It is worth questioning, though, what the long-term plan is.
But that may just be the point. There might not be a long-term plan. Brandon Beane must feel the heat after avoiding getting fired this off-season. Clearly, he is pushing all the chips in for a run at the Super Bowl this year.
