Ironic: Man City fuming again over referee ‘bias’ just days after Leeds United robbery

It only took a few days for Manchester City to be screaming about referee injustices after benefitting massively against Leeds United from the same incompetency.

It’s impossible to watch Premier League football at the moment without dwelling far too long on how bad the officiating is every week.

We were woeful against Sunderland, but that wasn’t the main talking point. Instead, absolutely horrendous decision-making from Stuart Attwell and VAR Paul Tierney grabbed the headlines.

Manchester City fume over referee controversy as Nottingham Forest snatch draw

Fresh from beating Leeds narrowly on Saturday evening, Manchester City faced one of our relegation rivals at home, Nottingham Forest.

Antoine Semenyo set the Citizens on their way to what they hoped would be a stress-free evening to keep pace with Arsenal. However, Morgan Gibbs-White’s delightful backheel and Elliot Anderson’s stunner came either side of a Rodri header to see spoils shared at 2-2.

City, though, were incensed that Erling Haaland was not awarded a penalty. In the second half, he was seemingly tripped after knocking the ball beyond Matz Sels. Nothing given.

Bernardo Silva then made a shocking claim about the refereeing his side has received this season. He was teetering on the verge of insinuating bias.

“I just think that all the 50-50s this season have gone against us – all of them, and it’s quite frustrating because, at the end, it makes a big difference in the title race,” he said, via the Independent.

Perhaps Silva has a point. After all, Rodri was charged by the FA for his previous comments suggesting bias from Premier League referees.

Except, four days prior when Man City edged out a 1-0 win against Leeds, Silva was happy to be on the right end of several dubious calls.

A controversial Matheus Nunes elbow was not deemed worthy of a handball and penalty. Meanwhile, Rayan Cherki’s ‘stamp’ on Ilia Gruev didn’t get looked at with real scrutiny by VAR either.

Add to that the inexplicable lack of additional stoppage time beyond the initial six minutes. Two City players were booked (one for time-wasting) in the 92nd minute. It seems as though Silva has a very short memory of officiating that’s blatantly gone their way in the past seven days.

Now the shoe’s on the other foot, he’s showing his hypocritical side. Funny, that. I couldn’t have less sympathy for him if I tried.
