Since trading away Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers last offseason, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys have been searching for an anchor on defense.
While Jones was adamant that the Parsons trade would work out in the long run, they desperately felt his absence last season, when the team’s lackluster defense kept them out of the postseason.
The Cowboys thought they could pull a major move at the trade deadline to find that superstar to change the outlook of their defense, but nothing was finalized, leaving Dak Prescott frustrated as another great season from the quarterback went to waste.
With the Las Vegas Raiders’ superstar defensive end Maxx Crosby on the market and reportedly available for the right price, Jones and the Cowboys’ brain trust believed they found their next ace for the defense.
And though they were seen as one of the frontrunners for the past week, a new report might have them looking elsewhere for that defensive superstar.

“Things are moving fast [regarding] Maxx Crosby,” posted NFL insider Trey Wingo on Threads. “Last night Dallas thought they were close to a deal but since then other teams have raised the ante and potentially are offering the Raiders 2 1st round picks. Expected Dallas to now shift their focus to Trey Hendrickson.”
If the Cowboys don’t want to give up a pair of first picks, they could attempt to sign the Bengals’ Hendrickson, who will be one of the most vaunted free agents when the negotiation window opens on Monday.
Although it was a down year relatively for Hendrickson with only four sacks, he was still rated the 13th best EDGE in the NFL by Pro Football Focus.
Currently, per Kalshi, the prediction website, the Chicago Bears are the heavy favorites to land Crosby with 40% of the action. Other teams believed to be in the mix still are the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams, and the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks.
