Everton have the chance to bring in some new faces when the summer transfer window opens up
Everton are being linked with a summer swoop for Genk wing-back Zakaria El Ouahdi, as per Voetbal Primeur (via Sport Witness). Crystal Palace have also been mentioned as a potential suitor for the player ahead of the next transfer window. His contract expires in June 2028 so he still has a two years left to run down.
The Toffees are positioned in 8th place in the Premier League table as they chase down a place in Europe. They won 2-0 at home against Burnley last time out. James Tarkowski and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall got their goals against the Clarets at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Everton target Zakaria cat Genk with Crystal Palace
Everton need to sign a new right-back for next season. Seamus Coleman is getting older, whilst Nathan Patterson has had injury issues. David Moyes has had to play the likes of Jake O’Brien and James Garner out of position there over recent times.
El Ouahdi, 24, is someone who likes to get up and down the flank and get involved in attacks. He has been on the books of Genk since joining them in 2023 and he has become one of their most prized assets. Prior to his move there, he caught the eye at Charleroi.
The Morocco international, who has one cap to his name, has made 96 appearances for his current club to date. They could face a real battle to keep hold of him later this year amid expected attention from elsewhere. He has chipped in with seven goals in this campaign.
Will Everton get into Europe?
Speaking after their victory over Burnley, Everton manager Moyes had this to say about their European chances: "I want to be positive, and I want to believe and I want the players to believe. I have said to them right at the start, that should be what we aim for if we can try and do it. It's getting closer.
“I'm not saying we can do it and I'm not saying we cannot. We're not being talked about as a club that's in relegation and falling away. We actually think we're a club that's making progress and we can start tickling the top teams and putting them under a bit of pressure."
