Maxx Crosby trade: The Detroit Lions would benefit from having the edge on board, but a new report pours cold water on the idea.
The Detroit Lions have wanted to see edge rusher Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders in a Lions uniform for years to see what he and fellow edge Aidan Hutchinson could do together.
Now, Crosby is at the center of a trade going down, and even though the exact team to get him hasn’t been announced yet, it’s down to a handful of suiters.
On Thursday, March 5, developments went down in the NFL that, unfortunately, make it more difficult to see Crosby go to the Detroit Lions. Here’s what happened and what it does to the Lions when it comes to their chances to get Crosby back to Michigan.
Las Vegas Raiders Edge Maxx Crosby Could Be Traded to the Detroit Lions, But It’s Getting Less Likely
On Thursday, March 5, the Chicago Bears made a high-profile deal with the Buffalo Bills to trade away wide receiver DJ Moore. According to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Buffalo Bills will get DJ Moore and a 2026 fifth-round pick in the deal, while theChicago Bears will secure 2026 second-round pick.
That move will also clear up salary cap space for the Chicago Bears, which was likely a strong motivator for Ben Johnson. Johnson, of course, may use that extra money to bring on Crosby. Now, that would be a total heartbreaker for the Detroit Lions after years of wanting him in Detroit.
Can you imagine seeing Crosby with Johnson and arch rival the Bears? We don’t want to think about it.
So, now, Johnson and the Chicago Bears have the funds to bring Crosby into the fold. Let’s hope they don’t use the cash on him. Even if they don’t, another strong contender has emerged.
Maxx Crosby Lions Status: Another Team May Be Close to a Deal
The Philadelphia Eagles are another team on the scene. They could really use another strong pass rusher, and the team’s offensive tackle Lane Johnson hinted at a big move to get Crosby on Thursday, March 5.
Johnson posted on X on Thursday and shared a simple eyeball emoji while tagging Crosby.
It’s also worth noting that after the Moore deal, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that NFL teams have gotten a sense that the Raiders are “more open” to the idea of moving Crosby to another franchise, so that’s a good sign for anyone interested.
On Wednesday, March 4, Michael Silver of The Athletic published a story about Crosby claiming that the player is “ready to leave Las Vegas.” But, he also said that Crosby is difficult to work with in practice.
“As Crosby blossomed into one of the league’s best players, [Jon] Gruden’s full-time successors in Las Vegas — Josh McDaniels, Antonio Pierce and Pete Carroll — found themselves powerless to contain him,” Silver wrote.
“Crosby, several witnesses say, would frequently violate one of football’s most sacred practice rules by making contact with red-jersey-clad quarterbacks — and get away with it,” Silver wrote. “Said one witness: ‘His attitude was, ‘If you don’t want me to do it, then block me.’ And nobody was in position to challenge that.”
