The Jaguars re-signed tight end Quintin Morris

The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to make important decisions ahead of free agency kicking off in less than a week. After their 13-4 season in which they won the AFC South and hosted a playoff game, two of their best players are about to hit the open market.

With the Jaguars $16 million below the salary cap, the team may lose out some of the players that helped them have one of their best regular seasons in franchise history. Both Lloyd, and Etienne rank among the top 10 free agents available, according to The Athletic’s top 150 rankings.

However, before free agency began, the Jaguars did secure one of their tight ends for the 2026 season.

Jacksonville Jaguars Re-Sign Quintin Morris

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Jaguars are re-signing tight end Quintin Morris to a one year, $3 million contract. Schultz wrote, “Morris is an ascending player who appeared in 14 games last season. Jacksonville values him for his blocking and special teams ability, while he has also shown the capacity to contribute in the passing game.”

While Morris did not make The Athletic’s top 150 free agents, he is a valued member of the Jaguars. On special teams, Morris played 253 snaps in the 2025 season, while also playing 214 offensive snaps. He became more involved as the year went along, as he only totaled seven offensive snaps through the first six weeks of the season. From that point forward Morris played in 35% of the team’s offensive snaps.

On their official team website, the Jaguars wrote of the move, “Morris, who signed with the Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent last offseason, caught six passes for 55 yards and a touchdown last season. He will enter his fifth NFL season next season.

Morris, who originally signed with the Buffalo Bills as a collegiate free agent following the 2021 NFL Draft, spent time on the Jaguars’ practice squad last season and played in 14 games with five starts. He has 21 receptions for 201 yards and four touchdowns in five NFL seasons.

The Jaguars now have five tight ends on the roster: Brenton Strange, Hunter Long, Johnny Mundt, Morris and Patrick Herbert.”

Quintin Morris Player Profile

Despite being a valued member of the Jaguars offense and special teams unit, his primary contribution is not as a receiver, but as a blocking tight end. That is a bit of a surprise, considering he has a background as a college wide receiver and former basketball player with good body control.

His development as a blocker was not something scouts anticipated heading into the 2021 NFL Draft. NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein said one of his weaknesses was, “Needs better aggression as a blocker.”

Zierlein was not high on Morris as a player as he wrote, “Morris switched from receiver to tight end in 2019 but his weight gain and tape from 2020 did him no favors in the evaluation process. He looked slow and extremely stiff in his lower body and a trip back to his 2018 and 2019 tape is required to see a more athletic and capable pass catcher. He’s below average as a route runner and unable to create enough separation against tight man coverage as a receiver or tight end. He might need to drop weight, improve his flexibility and continue working on his blocking to have a shot in the pros.”

Now, Morris has developed into a strong blocker and has carved out a solid NFL career.
