Marcus Freeman Gives Telling Response When Asked About Coaching in NFL

Following the college football season, no coach generated more NFL speculation than Marcus Freeman of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

However, Freeman elected to stay in South Bend, a place he seems to love since being hired in 2021 following Brian Kelly's departure.

At just 40 years old, his coaching journey is only getting started. On Thursday, after appearing on “Good Morning Football,” Freeman was asked if he sees himself coaching in the NFL one day, and he gave a telling response:

"Never say never," Freeman said.

He added, "Maybe I daydream once in a while. When there was some interest this year, I mentioned in my press conference that it gave me the opportunity to gain knowledge about what being an NFL head coach truly entails - the relationship with the GM, the ownership… I learned a lot about what it takes, and it's knowledge I'll continue to keep in mind. If there's a time and an opportunity, we'll see what the future holds."

Despite all the NFL speculation, Freeman made it very clear that he believes he has the best job in America coaching at Notre Dame.

“I have the best job in America, and I say that with strong conviction,” Freeman added. “I love this place. I have the greatest support from our university, top to bottom, and I get a chance to coach some of the best young men in the world - and this is what I’m called to do. I’m fulfilled, I’m happy, and I love being here. I’m grateful - truly grateful for this opportunity. So we’ll see what the future holds, but in this moment, in the near future, I’m as convicted as I can be as the head coach of this place.”
