Following a 122-114 loss against the Portland Trail Blazers, the Memphis Grizzlies announced a critical update on their star guard, Ja Morant.

On Thursday, March 5, the Grizzlies noted that while Morant is progressing, he will continue to miss time.

When Was The Last Time Ja Morant Played For The Grizzlies?

Injuries have affected Morant for the past few seasons, but the 2025-2026 setbacks have been difficult for him to overcome.

The last time Morant appeared on the court for the Grizzlies was during their January 21 game against the Atlanta Hawks. At the time, Morant checked in for nearly 30 minutes. he shot 7-15 from the field to score 23 points. He racked up a double-double with 12 assists.

At the time, it was Morant’s second-straight 20-plus-point double-double. He was just starting to bounce back and find his groove again after a long absence, but another one took place.

After missing Wednesday’s action against Portland, Morant missed his 19th game in a row. He’ll continue to miss time as his recovery is still in play.

This season, the 26-year-old guard appeared in 20 games, seeing the court for 28.5 minutes per matchup. Before going down again, Morant was shooting 41% from the field this season. His scoring was down to 19.5 points per game, a four-point dip compared to last year.

However, Morant was slightly better in the playmaking department, tying his career-high in assists per game with 8.1.

The Grizzlies are facing a lot of questions this season, and Morant is at the forefront of their concerns. After getting drafted to the team in 2019, and instantly becoming a key face of the franchise, there has been some consideration in Memphis about closing the book on the Morant era.

Leading up to the trade deadline, the Grizzlies were reportedly taking calls on Morant. The star guard wasn’t gaining too much traction this season. Ultimately, the Grizzlies held on. Morant told the public he wanted to stay in Memphis. The Grizzlies clearly weren’t rushing to trade him.

The future might hold a split for the two parties, but for the time being, the Grizzlies are focused on getting Morant healthy again so he can play.

Throughout his seven-year career, Morant has averaged 22.4 points while shooting 46% from the field. He is one of the top guards in the game when healthy, putting up 7.4 assists per game.

It’s unclear when Morant will be able to take the floor again, but the high-flying star will need some more time to work on a full recovery.
