Jon-Eric Sullivan may look to target one of his former wide receivers

Under Mike McDaniel, the Miami Dolphins became known for their speed and explosiveness on offense. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill broke franchise receiving records in each of his first two seasons with the Dolphins, while Jaylen Waddle led the league in yards per reception in 2023. Pair that with stellar individual performances by Raheem Mostert, Jonnu Smith and De’Von Achane, and Miami had one of the most dynamic groups of playmakers on offense.

Unfortunately, that has seemingly come to an end. Mostert took a step back in 2024 and left the team, Smith requested a pay raise and was traded,Hill suffered a devastating injury and was later released.Only Achane and Waddle remain as the building blocks for Miami’s offense.

With general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan taking control of the team’s roster, it seems Miami may opt to go in a different direction than they did with McDaniel. A new report has shown that the Dolphins may be going after one of Sullivan’s former draft picks in Green Bay.

Miami Dolphins Favorites for Romeo Doubs

Packer Report writer Easton Butler reported that the Miami Dolphins are the favorites to land wide receiver Romeo Doubs in free agency.Butler posted on X, “Dolphins are clear #1 so far for WR Romeo Doubs, with the Steelers and Bills just as strong. Other teams interested are Eagles and Saints. (Bills prior to DJ Moore trade).”

Spotrac currently projects Doubs to land a four-year, $48 million contract. However, TheAthletic’s Daniel Popper seems to believe Doubs could land more on the open market as he predicted Doubs to sign a four-year, $61 million contract. Popper ranked him as the No. 28 free agent in this year’s class.

Popper wrote, “Doubs understands leverage and spacing, and he has great feel and instincts on possession routes like slants, shallow digs and hitches. He has sturdy hands through contact, especially in the short area of the field. Doubs was almost exclusively an outside receiver for coach Matt LaFleur in Green Bay, but he has the route running and skills to play more inside as a power slot. Doubs is particularly deceptive on outs, creating regular separation at the top of these routes. He is also a very willing blocker.”

Miami Dolphins Wide Receivers

It is no secret that the Dolphins plan to address the wide receiver position. Perhaps the biggest issue the team has outside of depth is a lack of size.Sports Illustrated’s Alain Poupart said,“One of the biggest issues the Miami Dolphins had last season was a lack of size in the wide receiver room. At the start of the season, Miami’s receiver room had just one receiver taller than 6 feet, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. Separation ability is the most important trait for a receiver, but size matters, too. “

When speaking about the position group, Sullivan said, “We will make a conscientious effort to maybe be a little bigger in that room. Waddle and Malik (Washington) will help (the room). To say we’re going to have a room of 5-9 guys would be a lie.”

At 6-foot-2, Doubs would immediately give the Dolphins some much-needed size. Sullivan is familiar with Doubs as he was a part of the Green Bay Packers front office when Doubs was drafted. Additionally, Doubs is coming off the best season of his career as he totaled 724 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
