Chicago Bears release linebacker Tremaine Edmunds

CHICAGO, Ill., — The Chicago Bears have lost another starter from their NFC North title team a season ago. After the team traded DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday morning, they have now released linebacker Tremaine Edmunds.

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Bears have released Edmunds ahead of the new league year starting, just a week after it was reported that they were shopping him. The Bears couldn't find a suitor for Edmunds as they planned to release him anyway. The move will free up $15 million in cap space as Chicago entered this offseason with some cap troubles.

Edmunds signed a four-year deal with the Bears in 2023, and had one of the best seasons of his career in 2025 before getting hurt.
