The New York Jets might not be done doing business with an old friend.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini appeared on “The Jake Asman Show” and floated out another potential trade that could be struck between the Jets and the Tennessee Titans.

“Maybe there is a Jamien Sherwood for Will Levis deal in the offing here coming up,” Cimini speculated with Jake Asman.

Following the Jermaine Johnson trade, Asman asked Cimini if anyone else could be moved off the Jets roster.

“Well, the Jets don’t have a lot of tradeable commodities,” Cimini responded with a laugh before bringing up Sherwood as a possibility. “Who is the middle linebacker for Tennessee? I’m not even sure. The contract, that is the issue there. [Robert] Saleh discovered him, basically. He made him what he was. So if they’re willing to take on the money, maybe there is another deal there.”

A Natural Connection That Has Only Gotten Stronger

Since general managers Mike Borgonzi and Darren Mougey have been hired, they have struck two trades.

In the middle of last season, they worked out a deal for cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. During the NFL Combine, they banged out a player-for-player swap with Jermaine Johnson and T’Vondre Sweat.

With Robert Saleh in Tennessee, the likelihood of more trades with the Jets has only increased.

Saleh was the head coach in New York from 2021 to 2024. A few players he coached on defense are still on the green and white.

Levis Dart Throw for the Jets

Levis doesn’t have a long-term future in Tennessee. The former Penn State and Kentucky product originally entered the league as the No. 33 overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft.

Across Levis’ three seasons in the NFL, he has started 21 games. With those opportunities, Levis has completed 61% of his passes, has thrown for 3,899 passing yards, and has a 21 touchdown to 16 interception ratio.

Levis missed the entirety of last year due to offseason surgery on his throwing shoulder. He wasn’t expected to see the field anyway because Tennessee took QB Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

He has one year remaining on his $9.5 million rookie contract.

Levis is as talented as they come. He stands in at 6-foot-4 and weighs 229 pounds. Levis has the physique of a Greek God. One of his biggest issues is overconfidence. Every play, Levis tries to make a home run, and that has gotten him into a lot of trouble.

In just 21 career games, Levis has thrown 16 interceptions and has fumbled 17 times.

Sherwood Contract Has Gotten off to a Rough Start

Last offseason, the Jets’ first big splash was retaining Sherwood on a big-money deal. He signed a three-year $45 million contract with $30 million guaranteed.

Sherwood struggled mightily. Did he just fall off a cliff after getting paid? Was it Steve Wilks’ scheme that put him in bad positions? Only the Jets know the answers to these questions.

If they have an opportunity to wash their hands of this deal by flipping Sherwood back to his old coach, that is something they must consider.
