Report: Chelsea coach picks which goalkeeper should be Rosenior's no.1, Sanchez snubbed

When Mike Penders returns from his loan at Strasbourg in the summer, Chelsea will have at least three goalkeepers vying for the no.1 role, and Ben Roberts has made a decision.

Robert Sanchez has been Chelsea’s no.1 goalkeeper for a while now, while on Wednesday night, Sanchez was dropped by Rosenior after his calamitous showing at Arsenal. Filip Jorgensen came into the side.

The former Villarreal stopper did what he needed to, even if he couldn’t keep out Douglas Luiz’s early opener. Wrexham will see Rosenior bring a few fringe players in, but PSG will be first choice next week.

Who is Chelsea’s best goalkeeper?

As things stand, Jorgensen will start against PSG, judging by Rosenior’s bravery to start him at Aston Villa. But come the summer, who should be Chelsea’s no.1? Goalkeeper coach Roberts has made his pick.

Ben Roberts thinks Mike Penders should be Chelsea’s no.1

As things stand, Sanchez’s future at Chelsea looks bleak. He’s already been overtaken by Jorgensen and come the summer, Mike Penders will return from his impressive loan spell with Rosenior’s old team.

Penders has conceded just 41 goals in 35 games in a side that focus more on the attack, and outscoring the opponent. He’s won nine clean sheets in that time, so who does Roberts think should be the no.1?

According to TeamTalk, Chelsea’s goalkeeper coach Roberts is ‘advocating’ for Penders to become the club’s long-term no.1 choice between the sticks. Chelsea believe Penders is the long-term solution.

Will Chelsea sign a new goalkeeper in the summer?

It would not be a surprise to see Chelsea delve into the market and sign a more-proven shot-stopper. In January, Chelsea were linked with Roma’s Mile Svilar after Mike Maignan agreed new AC Milan terms.

Back in England, Chelsea have also been linked with a couple of goalkeepers. Indeed, the Blues are said to be willing to pay £50m for Brighton stopper Bart Verbruggen at the end of the season. Robin Roefs too.

The impressive Sunderland giant has also been linked with Chelsea. But among Chelsea’s current options between the sticks, it looks as if Penders could return and become first choice under his old manager.
