Liverpool have a chance to bounce back following a week that has seen supporter morale take a significant nosedive. The Reds return to action on Friday in the FA Cup, making their second visit to Molineux this week to face Wolves in the fifth round of the competition.
Their midweek encounter in the Black Country on Tuesday saw the Premier League's bottom club cause a major upset with a 2-1 victory, courtesy of Andre's deflected strike in the 94th minute. The loss - Liverpool's ninth in the league campaign - sparked widespread debate about the future direction of the side under Arne Slot.
With a large number of supporters convinced that another summer of substantial investment is required to restore the Reds to Premier League and Champions League contention, one former Liverpool star has weighed in on the prospect of Trent Alexander-Arnold returning to Merseyside. We examine the latest developments emerging from Anfield, including Slot's comments regarding the club's transfer plans.

Alexander-Arnold return verdict
Whilst many would consider a return to Anfield for Alexander-Arnold an unlikely transfer, former Reds right-back Glen Johnson has admitted it is a move he would relish seeing. The position has been one of constant upheaval since the 27-year-old's departure to Real Madrid last year.
Summer arrival Jeremie Frimpong has been hampered by muscle problems, whilst Conor Bradley is sidelined for the remainder of the season after undergoing knee surgery. The England international has endured a difficult beginning to his Madrid career with his own fitness concerns, restricting him to just seven La Liga appearances this season.

Johnson - who spent six years at Liverpool - insisted that Alexander-Arnold would be his preferred choice to start as the Reds' right-back next season. The 41-year-old told Boyle Sport: "Who would be my choice to be Liverpool's starting right-back next season? You'd love to see Trent back, of course you would."
Arne Slot's transfer comment
Slot presided over the most costly summer of recruitment in Premier League history when Liverpool spent £450million on nine players. Whilst it hasn't been a seamless start to life at Anfield for the likes of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, it was a window the Dutchman insists was an entirely fruitful one.
Slot said this week: "I'm so happy with what we did last summer. We signed such great players but some of them needed some time to adapt and some of them have mainly been injured.
"Adaptation you can predict because that's what we knew, but that some signings and some others got some long-term injuries isn't something you can predict."

Acknowledging that Liverpool's transfer strategy steers away from maintaining a large squad, Slot maintained that the club's approach is one he fully endorses despite its shortcomings when multiple players are sidelined simultaneously.
He said: "It's the model that we don't have 25 players over here. We have a different model over here. Then it hurts even more if you have three or four long-term injuries at the moment. I always knew when I came in here that this was the model and I'm really happy with that."
