Gary Lineker says what David Moyes has Everton doing is simply ‘embarrassing’

Gary Lineker has criticised Everton for their new kick-off routine that has divided people across the Premier League.

Everton secured their first victory at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for three months on Tuesday evening, but the game started in an unusual fashion.

David Moyes saw his side launch the ball high up in the air from kick-off and into Burnley’s half, like a kick in rugby.

Although Everton retained possession, it is not a tactic that Lineker and some others enjoyed to watch.

Gary Lineker slams Everton’s new kick-off routine

Lineker has shared a lot of praise for Everton this season, but what he saw at the very start of the game against Burnley was not to his liking.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker labelled the Toffees’ new kick-off routine as ’embarrassing’.

“I even saw, have you seen this thing that they do at kick-off now?” said Lineker.

“Some teams like scoop the ball up and do like a massive hoik it right up in the air to the edge. I mean, come on guys, it’s embarrassing.”

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall explained Everton’s kick-off routine, with the midfielder admitting it is a hard tactic to defend for the opposing side.

There were a lot of positives for Everton to take from Tuesday’s game, with a much-needed win on home soil finally in the bag.

However, it has become apparent the Blues will not be winning any style points from Lineker, who was far from impressed with the club’s new tactic.
