Former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino would consider Championship job - journalist

In a move that would have seemed unthinkable just a year ago, former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is being tipped for a sensational return to Tottenham in the Championship.

Mauricio Pochettino is currently gearing up for the World Cup with the United States of America.

However, the former Chelsea manager is likely to return to club football in the summer once the World Cup comes to an end, with Tottenham and Manchester United in the mix.

John Terry has even backed Pochettino to take the Tottenham job.

And he’s now being tipped to even drop down to the Championship, if Spurs suffer relegation.

Mauricio Pochettino could drop down to the Championship

Pochettino is open to returning to the Premier League, but a new claim has even suggested that he would be open to dropping down to the Championship.

Ben Jacobs, while speaking on the United Stand YouTube, provided an update.

“Mauricio Pochettino is perhaps more likely to go back to Tottenham. And you know what, that might even happen should Spurs go down.

“It would be more about the finances and affording Pochettino, but I don’t think he would necessarily be put off going into the Championship with Tottenham, feeling like they’d still be in a strong position to come back up.”

Mauricio Pochettino puts his reputation on the line

Pochettino guided a young squad to a sixth-place finish and a Carabao Cup final. However, his departure by mutual consent underlined a mismatch in vision regarding the club’s aggressive recruitment model.

Now, with Tottenham languishing in 16th place and facing a genuine threat of relegation, the narrative has shifted toward a romantic return to North London.

Dropping into the second tier would be an unprecedented move for a manager of his pedigree, but for Pochettino, the opportunity to restore Tottenham’s identity from the ground up may outweigh the perceived blow to his elite-level status.
