Barcelona have begun taking steps to clarify the future of Andreas Christensen as the defender approaches the final months of his current contract.
With the agreement set to expire at the end of the season, discussions have now started between the club and the player over a possible extension.
According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have already presented the Danish international with a renewal proposal.
The offer would extend his stay at the club for two additional years, although the financial terms differ significantly from his current contract.
The 29-year-old centre-back has reportedly been in contact with the club’s hierarchy in recent days to discuss the situation.
As reported before, negotiations appear to have accelerated following an initial proposal made last week.
Christensen’s representative recently met with Barcelona’s sporting director Deco to evaluate the club’s proposal and discuss possible next steps.
Barcelona’s offer includes a two-year extension but with a notably reduced salary compared to what the defender currently earns.
Despite the lower salary being proposed, Christensen is believed to be very comfortable in the city and is happy with life both at the club and in Barcelona itself.

However, the situation is not entirely straightforward because Christensen is approaching the end of his contract and he remains a valuable option on the market.
Even though he is currently dealing with an injury, his reputation across European football remains strong.
As a result, several clubs across Europe have reportedly shown interest in signing the Danish defender.
In addition to European teams, clubs from Saudi Arabia are also monitoring his situation closely.
For that reason, Christensen is expected to evaluate all possibilities before making a final decision about his future.
The player is not rushing into a choice and wants to consider both the sporting and financial aspects of the proposal.
At the same time, his immediate focus remains on returning to full fitness.
The defender wants to finish the season strongly and demonstrate that he can still play an important role in the team managed by Hansi Flick.
