Myles Garrett has been the gold standard for the Cleveland defense, coming off a 2025 campaign in which he set an NFL single-season record with 23.0 sacks. But after a most familiar of ways to make headlines off the field, the question looming over “The Land” is whether the All-Pro defender will ever truly heed his own wake-up calls.
On February 21, Garrett was clocked at 94 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 71. This was his ninth known speeding citation since 2017. During the stop at approximately 1:35 a.m., the responding deputy noted in the official incident report that the athlete was “kind and cooperative.” Garrett was driving a green 2024 Porsche and was returning to Northeast Ohio after attending a Miami (Ohio) RedHawks men’s basketball game.

Following the disclosure of the star’s latest traffic violation, the fanbase’s reaction was a mix of concern and disbelief. One observer characterized the situation as “mind-boggling levels of ineptitude,” arguing that Garrett has already proven he should not be driving himself.

Among the reactions to Garrett’s inability to stay within the speed limit has been the suggestion that his time in Cleveland should come to an end. One fan suggested he is “trying to get out of Cleveland so bad,” while another explicitly called for the team to trade him to the Green Bay Packers.

Another fan provided a simple solution to the recurring drama:
“This dude needs to hire himself a driver, he’s got the money,” one wrote.
Several fans raised practical questions regarding his legal standing, asking how many citations a driver can accumulate before facing a license suspension or loss of insurance coverage.

One comment even compared the incident to the driving culture at other programs, stating they had to verify that Myles Garrett did not attend the University of Georgia.

Myles Garrett: The ‘Wake-Up Call’ That Wasn’t
This latest citation adds to the former No. 1 overall pick’s highly publicized history of dangerous driving. Myles Garrett was involved in a rollover accident in Sharon Township in 2022 when his Porsche 911 Turbo S flipped multiple times. This resulted in a sprained shoulder and a strained bicep.
Following that 2022 accident, Garrett offered what sounded like a turning point in his off-field decision-making:
“This will definitely be a wake-up call for me, just try to be smart overall with driving.”
The Browns have historically treated Garrett’s citations as personal legal matters. Former coach Kevin Stefanski had previously called these incidents “extremely disappointing.”
Garrett is scheduled to appear in Wayne County Municipal Court in Wooster on March 10. However, as per reports, the appearance requirement can be waived if he pays an assessed fine of approximately $155 to $157.
