Hoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani has handed a potential setback to Chelsea’s transfer plans after openly admitting that his long-term dream is to play for Barcelona, despite growing interest from several Premier League clubs.
The 23-year-old forward has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s rising attacking talents this season with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, and his performances have reportedly placed him on the radar of CHELSEA ahead of the summer transfer window. German reports suggest Chelsea have already compiled extensive scouting reports on the Kosovo international as they assess options to strengthen their attack.
However, the striker’s own comments have complicated the situation. In a previous interview, Asllani made it clear that his ultimate ambition lies elsewhere, revealing that joining FC Barcelona remains his biggest career dream.
“My dream club has always been FC Barcelona. I’ve always wanted to play there,” he said, while also stressing his desire to compete in the Champions League.
Those remarks have naturally strengthened Barcelona’s position should they decide to pursue a deal, with the Spanish giants believed to be monitoring him as part of their long-term planning in attack.
Asllani’s rapid rise has made him an increasingly attractive target across Europe. Born in Berlin and representing Kosovo internationally, the 1.88-metre forward came through the youth systems at Union Berlin before joining Hoffenheim’s academy in 2020.
After loan spells at clubs including Austria Wien and SV Elversberg, he returned to Hoffenheim and began establishing himself in the Bundesliga first team.
His versatility has been a major factor behind the growing interest. Primarily a centre-forward, Asllani is capable of operating as a second striker or even drifting into wider or deeper attacking roles, making him an appealing option for clubs looking for a flexible attacking profile.
CHELSEA’s recruitment strategy in recent years has focused heavily on acquiring young players with high development potential, and Asllani fits that model. Reports suggest he could be available for around €30 million due to a release clause in his contract, which runs until 2029, potentially making him a relatively affordable option in the modern market.
Despite the Blues’ interest, the striker’s public admiration for Barcelona means any transfer race could ultimately depend on whether the La Liga giants decide to formalise their interest.
For now, Chelsea remain among several clubs monitoring Asllani’s progress. But with the player himself openly dreaming of a move to Camp Nou, convincing him to choose Stamford Bridge may prove to be the biggest challenge of all.
