Everton could soon sign the perfect Seamus Coleman replacement as rumour emerges (opinion)

As Seamus Coleman approaches the end of his fantastic career, it will be tough for Everton to replace the Irishman.

The Everton No.23 was one of the best defenders in the Premier League during his prime, especially when it came to attacking. He was particularly dangerous during the 2013/14 campaign, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 36 Premier League appearances as the Toffees finished fifth.

With Seamus Coleman now 37 and approaching the end of his contract, a replacement will be needed – and The Friedkin Group may have already found an ideal option in Oscar Mingueza.

What should be next for Seamus Coleman after his current Everton contract? 🤔

Can he really still provide an impact on the pitch… 😬

Oscar Mingueza has the potential to be an even greater attacking threat for Everton than Seamus Coleman was

It was TEAMtalk who claimed that Everton are watching Mingueza as a move for the Celta Vigo defender is considered, and those scouting the Spain international surely like what they see.

The Spaniard impressively netted four goals and provided six assists in 34 La Liga appearances last season from right-back, averaging a goal involvement every 3.4 matches, a superb record for a defender.

Those ten goal involvements are more than Coleman ever managed in a single season for Everton – even across all competitions. The Republic of Ireland international’s best campaign for attacking involvements came in 2013/14, when he scored seven and assisted another two across 41 appearances.

Mingueza – who Ronald Koeman admires – will obviously have to try and translate his displays in Spanish football over into the Premier League, a task many foreign players have struggled with over the years.

However, if Everton manage to sign the 26-year-old and he can maintain his attacking output, David Moyes could well have a new Coleman on his hands.

Mingueza can also play as a central defender and could be available for free as his contract expires at the end of the season, making the Celta Vigo No.3 a highly attractive target.
