Liverpool star has ‘mentally closed book’ on Reds – Decided he’s off in summer

Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté time in the Premier League could come to an end as Real Madrid are considering signing him.

That’s according to Bild, who cover the Liverpool player in a report focusing on Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck.

Bild say it’s their own information on Konaté and also cover Schlotterbeck’s chances of joining Liverpool in the summer.

The France international has less than six months left on his contract at Anfield and a renewal isn’t in sight.

In November, the 26-year-old dismissed claims of the Reds offering him a new contract. He also said his representatives are in talks with Arne Slot’s side regarding his future beyond this season.

Recent claims elsewhere have mentioned Schlotterbeck as an option for Real Madrid. Bild look at that and cover the latest on the 26-year-old Germany international and the former RB Leipzig man.

Liverpool star main target for Real Madrid

Schlotterbeck has a contract until 2027, and Borussia Dortmund want to offer him an extension. BVB faced a threat from Real Madrid, until the La Liga side changed their plans.

The Liverpool defender is now the top target for Real Madrid. According to the newspaper, he has ‘already mentally closed the book’ on his time in the Premier League. In short, he has decided to leave the Merseyside club after this season.

Konaté’s contract situation allows Real Madrid to sign him for free. Schlotterbeck, on the other hand, would cost Los Blancos at least €40m in the next window.

Three months ago, Sport Witness relayed news from Germany of the BVB centre-back being an option for Slot’s side. However, Bild now claim the Reds have no intention of bringing him to Anfield, mainly because of Giovanni Leoni’s arrival last summer.

Secons source backs it up

Journalist Ramón Álvarez de Mon took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to back up Real Madrid’s interest in Konaté.

He claims Real Madrid initially looked at the Frenchman as his contract expires in June. The Spanish giants then deemed he’s not a priority target before renewing their interest.

Therefore, Ramón Álvarez de Mon refuses to rule out possibility of Konaté joining Real Madrid, unless he signs an extension with Liverpool.

Transfermarkt now values the Liverpool man at €50m, which has dropped by €10m when compared to May 2025.

He is represented by CAA Stellar, who have maintained good ties with Real Madrid.

The agency took Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur to the Spanish capital in 2013 and also represents Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga. They’re well placed to negotiate a transfer for the Liverpool player.
