Glenn Hoddle wants former Liverpool man to take Tottenham Hotspur job with him

Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in full-blown crisis mode and are seriously in danger of being relegated this season.

Tottenham find themselves in full-blown crisis mode, and it feels a long way from the Champions League nights they once took for granted. A toxic mix of poor form, defensive chaos and mounting pressure from the stands has dragged them into a relegation scrap nobody saw coming back in August. Thursday night’s 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in north London only deepened the sense that this is a club spiralling rather than stabilising.

With the mood around the club at rock bottom, it is no surprise that talk has already turned to what comes next in the dugout. That is where Glenn Hoddle has stepped in, openly suggesting he would be keen on a return to Tottenham and even floating the idea of bringing a familiar face with him.

The former Spurs boss believes pairing “a young manager” with his own experience would be a smart way to reset the club and reconnect with its DNA, and one name he clearly has in mind is former Liverpool man Robbie Keane.

Keane has quietly been building his own reputation in management away from the Premier League spotlight. The former Liverpool and Spurs striker took over at Hungarian giants Ferencváros in January 2025 and immediately turned them into a winning machine, guiding the club to the league title.

Speaking on the ‘Could it be Magic’ FA Cup podcast, Hoddle claimed he would take the job at Spurs if it was offered to him:

“I think I would, actually. Particularly with Tottenham, as that’s my club,” he said.

“I’ve supported them since I was eight years of age. So they were a massive part of my life.”

“Robbie’s doing great as a young manager. So to have a steady springboard and someone experienced like myself would be a good formula, in many ways.”

“I think it’d be a shrewd move to have somebody, whether it was me or somebody experienced with him.”

It’s a proposal that would bring a hungry, successful young coach into a club crying out for fresh ideas and a clear direction.
