SF's Union Square Will Be Transformed Into A Massive Tulip Garden Next Month (patch.com) — San Franciscans can look forward to Union Square becoming a huge tulip garden on Saturday, March 21, with 80,000 American-grown flowers from Dutch bulbs creating a colorful downtown attraction. The free Tulip Day event lets visitors pick their own bouquets and is part of a broader effort to celebrate spring and revitalize the heart of the city.
2. Health workers protest UCSF, demand accountability for December stabbing (missionlocal.org) — Health workers in San Francisco rallied at UCSF’s Mission Bay campus demanding stronger safety measures and support after social worker Alberto Rangel was fatally stabbed at San Francisco General Hospital. Colleagues cite widespread threats and assaults, describe ongoing trauma and financial strain, and say UCSF has not adequately responded, while calling for direct engagement from university leadership.
3. S.F. lagged behind other big cities in getting housing permitted but it's speeding up (sfchronicle.com) — San Francisco’s building permits for new housing still take far longer than in peer cities, but recent reforms have sharply cut approval times for newer applications. A Board of Supervisors report shows median permit processing dropped from 280 to 114 days after Mayor Daniel Lurie’s Permit SF changes, even as the city struggles to meet ambitious state housing targets and unclog tens of thousands of stalled units.
