Edwin van der Sar settles the debate whether Jordan Pickford is world-class

Edwin van der Sar has admitted he does not think Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is world class.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper must not have been watching Pickford very closely, with his last two outings producing world class saves against Newcastle United and Burnley.

Eddie Howe was stunned by Pickford’s save against an absolute thunderbolt of a volley from Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Edwin van der Sar does not think Jordan Pickford is world class

Both Jarrad Branthwaite and Jack Grealish were wowed by Pickford’s save against Newcastle, which secured all three points for the Blues.

However, speaking to ESPN, Van der Sar has said that Pickford is not world class.

The save against Newcastle and the late save against Burnley are two contenders for Save of the Season in the Premier League.

Gary Lineker thinks Pickford is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, the former Everton striker said:

“I think whenever we have discussions about the best goalkeepers in world football, he doesn’t crop up -and I think he should.”

After all, this is a player who has almost single-handedly kept Everton in the Premier League over these difficult years.

Pickford remains one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers

Despite having not played for a side that has been competing at the top end of the table, Pickford has launched himself into contention for the Golden Glove over recent years.

Only two goalkeepers, David Raya (14) and Gianluigi Donnarumma (11), have been able to keep more clean sheets than Pickford (10) this season.

David Seaman has shared how big of a worry Pickford’s fitness is for England, with an injury to their number one potentially ending their World Cup dreams.

Had Pickford left Everton and joined a club that was competing then he would be given a considerable amount more credit than he currently gets.

For now, Pickford will continue to prove his doubters wrong.
