Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 03/06/26: Shedeur Sanders Has Little to do with this Article

Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!

With many years of experience as a professional webdork and still possessing my energy and (knock on wood) my health, one would think I would be better at it. But, alas, I am not.

For example, I have totally failed to get my perspicacious writing staff to include the phrase "Shedeur Sanders" in the title of everything we write, unlike some other websites (** cough, Bleacher Report, cough **). Clearly, I am missing an opportunity with some financial impact.

Actually, looking at the org chart, Pete is actually responsible for the content you see on this website, so blame him. As brilliant as he is, he fails to see that all the Google algorithms care about is how Browns-related events are covered through the lens of Shedeur Sanders fans.

So, let's address that by looking at all of the news of the day from the perspective of how it impacts Shedeur Sanders.

OH NO, SHEDEUR HAS MIXED FEELINGS: The Browns brought in Alabama QB Ty Simpson and Ohio State WR Carnell Tate for top-30 visits at team headquarters. They had already talked to WR Jordyn Tyson, the outstanding but oft-injured wideout from Arizona State.

All three of these visits can impact Shedeur. If he is the starter for the Cleveland Browns in 2026, he might greatly benefit from the presence of either Tyson or Tate. That's assuming that he's got enough time to throw from behind a line that is currently made up of empty spaces. It's Alabama QB Ty Simpson's visit that has to concern Shedeur fans the most, since he also plays quarterback, which is the position that Shedeur Sanders plays. Therefore, if drafted by the Browns, he would likely compete with Shedeur (and Dillon Gabriel and Deshaun Watson) for the starting job.

So, I believe the reason for Shedeur to have mixed feelings about these visits is clear. Wide receivers are good, and other quarterbacks are less good.

TYLER LINDERBAUM GETTING ATTENTION: The Baltimore Ravens failed to sign standout center Tyler Linderbaum to a new deal, and didn't franchise tag him either. So, the Ravens center is hitting the free agent market. I think this is good from Shedeur Sanders' perspective, since Linderbaum would help protect Sanders from interior defensive linemen with negative intentions toward his ability to stand vertically and throw a football.

The downside for Shedeur is that Linderbaum is in high demand and will likely command a high price. Other teams interested in him would include the Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants and the Ravens themselves. Cleveland is mentioned as a potential also-ran. I personally think the Browns might pursue Linderbaum aggressively because of the Monken connection and the need to protect Shedeur (and others, I guess) in a division that is loaded with interior pass rushers. I'd be enthusiastic about a Linderbaum pairing, particularly if the Browns surround him on both sides with youth, which is a possibility if KT Leveston switches to guard. Perhaps they could look at shifting Luke Wypler away from center in this scenario.

SHEDEUR WOULD LIKE THIS MOCK DRAFT: If you're an Athletic subscriber - the solid subscription for Browns fans other than this one - you can check out a mock draft that I like a great deal. It has the Browns snaring their starting tackle, starting guard, and a potential steal at wide receiver (the aforementioned Tyson). All of these things are good from Shedeur's perspective, and the mock doesn't have the Browns taking another shot at quarterback, which is also good. It does have the Browns drafting a punter to replace Corey Bojorquez, which doesn't affect Shedeur much, but could minimize the impact in the rare case he doesn't get a touchdown on each drive.

CAP SPACE IS AVAILABLE: The Browns may have more money to work with in free agency than most people realize, per new OBR analysis from Jack Duffin. With free agency set to begin next week, that's an encouraging sign as the team tries to address its many needs, primarily on the offensive side of the ball. The OBR forums are lighting up with discussions about quarterback options, with Kyler Murray dominating the conversation in Ask the Insiders. Would Murray fit the Kevin Stefanski/Tommy Monken offensive scheme? Lots of debate on that front — check out all the Insider threads below.

A SHORT CAREER: Old Browns draft pick IDL Perrion Winfrey was released by the Cowboys. Off-field woes and back issues plagued him and his future is uncertain, unlike Shedeur Sanders, who is signed for four years and probably won't be released by the Browns.

Have a good one! GO BROWNS!

THE LIFT

Positive news from the world of sports and beyond...

- This judge ruled that dogs are legally considered 'immediate family.' What does that actually mean?

- Making hummus on the moon? Scientists just grew chickpeas in simulated lunar dirt

- These Bacteria Beat Cancer By Eating Cancer

Three stories today, and I'm too lazy to pick one, and I'm not sure how they relate to Shedeur Sanders, but here you go anyway. That judge is right on dogs. My brain is too small to foresee the ramifications, but I think the basic idea is right. My dog, currently lying in repose on a pink-and-white bed, would certainly agree as well.
