Arsenal Injury Worries Grow Ahead Of FA Cup Trip To Mansfield
Arsenal will arrive for this FA Cup tie against Mansfield with strong momentum. But, the injury list has begun to worry supporters. The biggest setback is the absence of Mikel Merino in their midfield. The Spanish midfielder suffered a serious foot fracture earlier in the season and required surgery. His recovery will take time, leaving his side without one of their important midfielders.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta confirmed the situation after the operation. He said:
“Well, I think the doctors were really happy the way it went. Yeah, now it starts. Obviously, it’s a long process. You’re talking about bone healing, so you need to be patient. You respect the timings, and I’m sure Mikel is going to do everything that he possibly can to speed up the process. We’re talking about months, whether it’s three, four or five, we don’t know.”
Elsewhere, captain Martin Odegaard remains a doubt as well. The Norwegian playmaker missed the recent win over Brighton. He continues to manage a knee problem that has bothered him throughout the season.
Arteta provided a cautious update, saying: “Martin is the other one. Maybe, we will see how comfortable he is in certain actions.”
Defensively, the Gunners also face uncertainty. William Saliba twisted his ankle during the win against Chelsea. He was in pain to play against Brighton but the club does not believe the injury is serious. Still, the French defender may not be risked against lower league opposition.
Ben White is another player who could miss out on the weekend. The defender has been absent in recent matches with a minor knock. He may need more time before returning to full training.
Rotation Expected As Gunners Protect Key Players
With several players struggling for fitness, Arteta is very likely to rotate heavily for the Mansfield trip. The team remain involved in multiple competitions, including the Premier League title race and upcoming European fixtures. Given that, protecting key stars makes sense.
Even with changes, the squad still looks strong on paper. The north London side average roughly two goals per game in the Premier League. They have already shown their attacking strength in this season’s FA Cup. The Gunners scored four goals in both of their previous rounds as well. This shows they can dominate even with a rotated lineup.
Young defenders and benched players may get opportunities here. Players like Cristhian Mosquera and Myles Lewis Skelly could feature in the back line. Several attacking options are waiting for minutes as well.
The good news for Arsenal fans is that most injuries do not appear serious. Saliba and Odegaard are both expected to return soon, possibly for upcoming European fixtures.

One player who could benefit from squad rotation is Noni Madueke. The winger has spent plenty of time on the bench recently. That is due to Bukayo Saka’s consistent presence in the starting lineup.
Despite limited minutes, Madueke has impressed whenever he has stepped onto the field. His pace and direct style give his side a different attacking option. He offers a clear threat especially against teams that defend deep.
