Once again, LeBron James made NBA history.
In a matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets, the superstar forward needed just a few field goals to break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record for most shots made in the history of the game. Early on, LeBron got what he needed and finished the game with much more.
After the game, LeBron reacted to his latest accomplishment.
"Just being linked and my name being mentioned with some of the greatest to ever play this game. It's always been humbling,” James told reporters.
“It's a pretty cool thing. I grew up watching, reading, idolizing a lot of the greats. If I ever was able to be apart of the NBA, I wanted to put myself in a position where I could be named with some of the greats."
James finished the night with 16 points on 7-11 shooting from the field, and 2-2 shooting from the charity stripe. In 34 minutes, he nearly racked up a double-double by dishing out eight assists. Defensively, James had five rebounds, three steals, and one block.
James’ night was spoiled by a Lakers loss. The Nuggets defeated LA 120-113.
Still, James walks away from the game with another notable to add to his already-extensive list of career accomplishments.
James is a four-time champion (winning NBA Finals MVP each time), four-time NBA MVP, three-time NBA All-Star MVP, 13-time All-NBA First Team, four-time All-NBA Second Team, and four-time All-NBA Third-Team. He landed six All-Defensive nods throughout his career.
With another All-Star appearance to add to the list this year, James officially has 22 to his collection. Unsurprisingly, that’s just another record that LeBron James holds.
As long as the star forward continues playing at a high level, he’ll only continue to break records he hasn’t touched, while shattering the ones he currently owns.
Despite getting off to a late start this year, James continues to thrive in his role with the Lakers, even while taking a co-star role alongside Luka Doncic.
In 44 games, LeBron posted averages of 21.4 points while shooting 50% from the field. He is also averaging 7.0 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game.
The Lakers dropped to 37-25 on Thursday night. After failing to jump the Nuggets in the standings, the Lakers remain sixth in the Western Conference. They have a 2.0-game advantage over the Phoenix Suns.
