Ahead of the Spurs-76ers game, the NBA dropped two big announcements about Victor Wembanyama after San Antonio's undefeated month of February.
The San Antonio Spurs collected another statement win on Thursday, March 5.
Hosting the Eastern Conference’s No. 1 seed, the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio took care of business with a 121-106 victory.
To no surprise, Victor Wembanyama had a massive night.
In 39 minutes, the veteran big man shot 12-24 from the field. He knocked down 4-10 shots from three and made 10 out of 11 shots from the charity stripe. Wembanyama finished the game with a double-double. He collected 38 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, and five blocks.
Although it was a quiet night for the rookie Dylan Harper, Wembanyama still had plenty of praise for the league’s No. 2 pick in 2025. After the game, Wembanyama dropped a major statement in support of the Western Conference Rookie of the Month.

“I have zero doubt that if there was a redraft today, we would take him,” Wembanyama told reporters. “He’s so good, so composed…I’m so happy that Dylan is super young and can be there for years and years because I want to share the court with him for as long as possible.”
Harper entered the NBA out of Rutgers. After starring at the New Jersey-based school for one season, Harper garnered hype as an early lottery pick.
After the Dallas Mavericks selected Cooper Flagg out of Duke, Harper was called on as the Spurs’ No. 2 selection. He’s been a key reserve for San Antonio, as they thrive throughout the 2025-2026 NBA season.

“What’s crazy is that Wemby, castle and Harper aren’t going to hit their primes for years and they are already this good,” a fan on Spurs Reddit said.
“Would be awesome if we have the ROTY 3x in a row,” another one added.
“Wemby is seemingly so honest and genuine in interviews, to the extent that he gets criticized by the national nba community. Nonetheless, his honesty is a huge boost for Dylan in this moment because he knows he can believe everything Wemby is saying,” a fan stated.
This season, Harper has appeared in 51 games. He is shooting 48% from the field to score 11.1 points per game.
The backup guard is also coming down with 3.3 rebounds, while racking up 3.7 assists.
Rookie of the Year is likely out of the question for Harper this year. The Dallas Mavericks star Cooper Flagg has been one of the most dominant young players in the league.
Although Flagg was initially viewed as an early runaway candidate to win the title, Kon Konueppel of the Charlotte Hornets has recently earned some favoritism for the award. He’s a serious contender if not already the favorite.
Rookie of the Year or not, Harper is a rising star in San Antonio. The fact that Wembanyama is backing him early on is a great sign for years to come.
