Giants trade rumor could lead to deal with Packers, Lions, 49ers or Raiders

Four teams that should be in the market for an edge rusher this offseason are the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders

The Packers' need stems from the belief the team could cut Rashan Gary, which would leave Green Bay with a gaping hole at one edge rusher spot.

The Lions have a stud in Aidan Hutchinson, but it remains to be seen who will be starting opposite him in 2026 with Al-Quadin Muhammad a pending free agent.

In San Francisco, the 49ers need more firepower across from Nick Bosa, who is also coming off a torn ACL. The Raiders, meanwhile, might trade Maxx Crosby, and they have fellow edge rusher Malcolm Koonce set to hit the open market.

One edge rusher who is available, according to SNY's Connor Hughes, is New York Giants defender Kayvon Thibodeaux, who could draw interest from all four teams.

"It's widely known Kayvon Thibodeaux is available. The Giants won't move him for pennies on the dollar, but they're more than willing to answer the phone," Hughes reported.

With Brian Burns and Abdul Carter under contract, New York is flush with talent at the edge rusher spot, which could make Thibodeaux expendable.

Another source of motivation to trade Thibodeaux is that he's on the final year of his contract and an extension in New York remains unlikely.

A former No. 5 overall pick, Thibodeaux showed flashes of brilliant in 2023 when he posted a career-high 11.5 sacks.

However, he has been marred by injury the past two seasons and hasn't been very productive even when on the field, with eight sacks in his last 22 contests.

He is still just 25 years old, though, and it's quite possible his best football is still ahead of him. That, along with the possibility he could be a long-term solution, makes Thibodeaux at least a moderately attractive commodity.

That said, the Giants can't expect to get much for him thanks to his contract situation and two lackluster seasons in a row.

We suspect New York will come away with an early Day 3 pick, at best. It wouldn't shock us to see the Giants hold on to Thibodeaux until the trade deadline in the hopes he rebounds and increases his value.
