Former London Blues player Charlton Cole has accused a Chelsea player of being “lazy” on the pitch. Cole was referring to Pedro Neto’s playstyle against their London rivals Arsenal at the weekend. According to the Blues legend Pedro Neto had to track back more in order to win the game for his team. It would be interesting to see how the player responds in the game against Aston Villa.
Former Chelsea striker Carlton Cole has called current Blues winger ‘lazy’ after watching him in the Arsenal defeat on Sunday. Chelsea lost 2-1 away from home in the Premier League match, allowing Arsenal to surge in to their title challenge this season. It was a very frustrating game for many reasons, especially some of the officiating.
But one decision the Ref didn’t really have any choice in was the sending off for Pedro Neto. But former Chelsea ‘Cole’s’ Joe and Carlton have been debating the second yellow card on a Podcast this week, and they have been in a bit of a disagreement over it.
On the podcast, Joe Cole thought Neto’s tackle was one normally accustomed to an attacking player but Carlton Cole disagreed with his old Chelsea teammate. Joe Cole said: “It was the tackle of a winger. A tackle of someone who was frustrated because he got outpaced,” to which Carlton Cole replied: “I think it’s worse.” “I think you’re giving him grace.”
“I think it was laziness. It was lazy. He knew he had to run some yards back. I also think he’s forgotten he’s on a yellow because it’s happened so soon.
Neto looks to respond the Chelsea legend Cole
The pressure is on if Chelsea are to qualify for next season’s Champions League. Liam Rosenior’s men suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat away to Arsenal last weekend. Leaving them six points off the top four. And with a huge game away to Aston Villa up next, anything less than a win would see Chelsea’s hopes of playing elite European football next season over.
After his second half sending off against the Gunners, one player who won’t be featuring against the Villains is winger Pedro Neto. Neto was shown a second yellow card after 70 minutes for a reckless challenge on Gabriel Martinelli. Former Blue Carlton Cole thinks the winger’s lack of desire to get back was to blame.
Cole features on podcast alongside Joe Cole, where the pair recently discussed Neto’s on field behaviour. Joe Cole believes Neto’s challenge was typical of a forward, but Cole didn’t agree, and branded the former Wolves man ‘lazy’.
Inside the London derby
Arsenal saw off Chelsea with a 2-1 game to move five points clear at the top of the Premier League on Sunday.
Three corners provided the three goals, as William Saliba put the hosts in front first. Before a Cristhian Mosquera own goal sent the two sides level into half time. The second 45 saw the hosts take the lead again, their 16th this league term from a corner, as Jurrien Timber bundled over from a Declan Rice delivery, before Pedro Neto saw himself sent off with two yellow cards in the space of three minutes.
Arsenal headed into this clash buoyed after a 4-1 thrashing of their arch-rivals Spurs last weekend. Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres both scored a brace.
Chelsea, however, were held at home by Burnley after Zian Flemmings scored just moments from time in a game that saw Wesley Fofana sent off, meaning he missed out on Sunday.
