The NBA is in a great spot when it comes to how much talent the league possesses throughout its group of 30 teams. Plenty of players could have arguments in their favor about being the best player in the league. One of those players is Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards.
Edwards has continued to develop over the last few years. He has helped lead the Timberwolves’ franchise back to relevance in the Western Conference.
In each of the last two years, Minnesota has made a run to the Western Conference Finals. Unfortunately, Edwards has been unable to get his team over the hump and into the NBA Finals.
With that being said, he has started gaining some traction as being a pick for best player in the NBA.
Former NBA Superstar Carmelo Anthony Doesn’t Hold Back About Anthony Edwards
Speaking of the best player in the NBA debate, former superstar Carmelo Anthony weighed in with his opinion. He believes that Edwards deserves that title.
“I think Ant Edwards is the best player in the NBA,” Anthony said simply.
There are many who would disagree with Anthony. Some would pick Nikola Jokic, while others would pick Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Other names could top the list as well.
Despite how many other players could be deserving of the title, Anthony has locked in his opinion on Edwards. Should the Timberwolves’ superstar find a way to lead his team to a championship, the argument could be made even more seriously.
Taking a Look at Anthony Edwards’ NBA Career So Far
So far this season in Minnesota, Edwards has played in 53 games. He has averaged 29.5 points per game to go along with 5.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals, while also shooting 49.5 percent from the floor and 40.6 percent of his three-point attempts.
Throughout his entire six-year NBA career thus far, he holds averages of 24.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.3 steals.
At just 24 years old, Edwards still has time to continue developing and improving his game. He is currently No. 3 in the NBA in scoring behind Luka Doncic and Gilgeous-Alexander. His importance to his team is much greater than either of those two stars.
It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for Edwards with the Timberwolves. Minnesota has been active in the NBA rumor mill over the last couple of years as it looks to bring in a co-star for Edwards.
While not everyone will agree that Edwards is the best player in the league, his numbers show a strong argument for that case to be made. He has at least one believer in the form of Anthony.
