Gittens went off in the first half of the 3-2 win against West Ham last month, and has missed the last five Premier League games.

The England under-21 international has struggled following his move from Borussia Dortmund last summer, and has scored just once in 27 appearances in all competitions.

Liam Rosenior provides update on Jamie Gittens

Gittens has shown glimpses of his quality this season, but like with a number of Chelsea’s young stars he’s really struggled with consistency.

The 21-year-old is competing with Alejandro Garnacho on the left wing, whilst Pedro Neto has also played there at times this season.

With the season reaching the business end, the Blues need as many players available as possible, and speaking ahead of Saturday’s game against Wrexham Rosenior provided an update on Gittens.

“Jamie Gittens is really close which is great,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“He had a positive scan.”

By Rosenior’s own words it sounds like Gittens could potentially return to the squad for Wednesday’s game with PSG or if not next Saturday’s game against Newcastle.

Geovany Quenda to arrive in the summer

Whilst Gittens has struggled this season, more competition is arriving in the summer in the shape of Geovany Quenda.

The Blues agreed a deal for the teenager with Sporting Lisbon last year, and Quenda is regarded as one of the best prospects in Europe.

The expectation is Quenda will go straight into the first team squad to compete for minutes, and it’ll be interesting to see what impact he makes and how he adjusts to the Premier League.
