Jeremy Jacquet confirms successful surgery: Promises to “come back stronger!”

Jeremy Jacquet has confirmed the operation on his injured shoulder “went very well,” with the new Liverpool signing set to miss the rest of the season.

The defender, who will join Liverpool from Stade Rennais in the summer, has undergone successful shoulder surgery and is to now begin the recovery phase of his rehabilitation.

Jacquet wrote online: “As announced by the club, the operation went very well. A long phase of rehabilitation is about to begin, I will give it my all during this time to come back stronger!”

Less than a week after his £55 million transfer to Liverpool was agreed, Jacquet suffered a serious shoulder injury while playing for Rennes against Lens at the start of February.

He has now completed his surgery and the Reds expect Jacquet to be available for the start of pre-season in July, according to the Athletic‘s James Pearce.

This effectively ends his Rennes career, where he has become one of Europe’s most promising young centre-backs in just 33 first-team appearances.

After news of the 19-year-old’s impending signature had been announced, Arne Slot said: “Very pleased, of course, because first of all he’s a very big talent, maybe even more than a talent – but we speak about talent because of his age of course.

“Second of all, because we weren’t the only ones interested in him.

“So another big compliment for the people working every single day, so hard, that we were able to sign such a big talent.

“Another example of the model we are using at this club. Young, very talented players, sometimes at the start of their careers, sometimes already a few years in.

“But always players that are young and can improve us and help us for the short but definitely also for the long term.

“We’ve signed a lot of them recently and I’ve said many times that the mid-to-long-term future, but even the short-term future, of this club is in a very, very good place.”

When will we see Jeremy Jacquet in action?

With a World Cup place all but ruled out, we should see Jacquet next in pre-season.

The Reds may play a game before, but the first pre-season fixtures that have been confirmed take place on July 25, 29 and August 2 in Nashville, New York and Chicago respectively.

The first outing comes just six days after the World Cup final and will see Liverpool face Sunderland at GEODIS Park, followed by games against Wrexham and Leeds at the subsequent destinations.

Given Liverpool will have several players at the World Cup, we may not see many of the first team until the start of August, depending on how far they go in the competition.
